Re: New Blog - BOSS pedals of the Pros
The fact that this joke works actually speaks to the familiarity with of some of those pedals, I think.

Nicely done. Interesting read, plenty of info on each pedal, but not TL;DR
Be interested to read the same thing but about the professionals uptake of the Waza versions.

Total thread derailment... but while we've got you here. A while back you listed your preferred way to set up a soldano amp. I can't for the life of me find it. Are you able to run through your starting point for how to set the knobs please
Thanks heaps!!!

Here's a good starting point for a Soldano:
Gain - 5-6
Bass - 9
Mids - 4
Treble - 3
Presence - 6
They also get better when they are LOUD. Around 5 on the Master is where they really start humming.

I'm not certain what the pro uptake has been on these pedals. Haven't seen them on any famous pedalboards yet.JHorner wrote:Nicely done. Interesting read, plenty of info on each pedal, but not TL;DR

All the Waza Craft pedals are very cool though. I'm a little bit in love with the VB-2W.

Re: New Blog - BOSS pedals of the Pros
3 of my all time fav Boss pedals:
OC-2 for when you want to bust out some CKY riffs nothing else comes close!
FZ-2 for those stoner doom moments! actually, this pedal was on Pete Thorns board for ages. He liked it for its sweet sound and the fact that it plays nicely with buffered signal.
PH-2 is a sweet little phaser with a bell like metallic sound that nothing else seems to replicate. this is THE pedal all over the Morning View era Incubus recordings.
I really wish Boss/Roland would release a pedal in the form factor of something like an Eventide Factor series of Strymon big box series with DSP models of ALL of their stomp boxes to date! (yes, even the VINTAGE ones)
No amp modelling, just their effects. This with presets and midi would be amaze-balls. I would buy one in a heart beat.

I love the FZ-2 for its active EQ, can get you some really over the top crazy tones. I think the mode 1 is a muff variant and the mode 2 is a Superfuzz/Bee Baa crossover.Kloppsta wrote:FZ-2 for those stoner doom moments! actually, this pedal was on Pete Thorns board for ages. Mode 2 is in charge or the classic Electric Wizard tone:

Ha! There I was last week, thinking I was a bit behind-the-times, using my DD3 in a world of much fancier pedals...
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Re: New Blog - BOSS pedals of the Pros
"By the time 1986 rolled around, the price of D-RAM chips had plummeted, and the cost of building the DD-2 had dramatically reduced. BOSS wished to pass on the price savings to the customer, but decided that simply dropping the price of the DD-2 would make a poor impression to the market. Instead they decided to simply change the name of the DD-2 to the DD-3. BOSS simply continued manufacturing the same circuit – they just changed the silk-screen printing on top of the pedal and released it to the market with a much lower price tag."
Brilliant!
I miss mine. Sold it to Ben Brunskill when I got a Flashback. Shoulda kept it. I'll hang on to my SD1 though.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
