Black River Drive seeks lead guitarist

Post by sambrowne »

Black River Drive is seeking a lead guitarist, expanding the line up to a 5 piece.

We're looking for a passionate rock guitarist with attitude to burn. You will need to be competent across the board but you don't need to be able to play 500 notes per minute - attitude and style is more important to us than pure technical ability. Our style of music draws on a range of rock and metal guitar styles - AC/DC, Tool, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Guns'n'Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones and others - so you'll need to be flexible and a quick learner.

We'll be holding auditions shortly. To apply for the position, please email us at blackriverdrive at gmail dot com with as much of the following as possible:

- Years you have been playing
- Equipment you use (or will use if you are invited to join the band)
- Bands you've played with and their achievements
- Who your musical heroes are and why
- Your goals as a musician and your career aspirations
- Your achievements as a musician to date
- Links to you playing (ideally both audio and video content), contact details, a photo of yourself and why you want to be in the band).

The more information you can supply, the better.

About Black River Drive:

Combining razor sharp rock riffs with moments of calm clarity, Black River Drive is the sound of New Zealand rock in 2010. Drawing influence from across the spectrum of rock music icons (Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, ACDC, Metallica, Kings of Leon) Black River Drive have quickly claimed a place alongside Shihad and Opshop as one of NZ’s truly great rock bands.

After inking a deal with legendary independent record label Rhythm Method (Opshop, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Shapeshifter), Black River Drive’s debut album Perfect Flaws was released on October 4th 2010, delivering in spades the band’s potent mix of crunching, relentless guitars and raw, emotive melody. The album was produced with legendary hitmakers Greg Haver (Feelers, Opshop) and Chris Van De Geer (Stellar*).

New Zealand rock fans have embraced Black River Drive from the beginning, with their song ‘Bullet for your Gun’ hitting #1 across all rock radio in New Zealand in February 2010 and maintaining the top spot for 5 weeks, toppling ACDC to get there. Current single ‘Call The Doctor’ has repeated Bullet for your Gun’s success, reaching #1 in November 2010. The song has hit the #1 spot 3 times over November 2010.

Black River Drive completed a sellout national tour with I Am Giant and Luger Boa in June and July 2010 (State of Rock), playing to packed venues from Whangarei to Dunedin. The band have just completed a November tour with veteran pop rockers Autozamm, and will be playing support for US rock icons Bon Jovi in December 2010, in front of tens of thousands of rock fans. The band have also just been confirmed for the main stage at Homegrown 2011, playing alongside Shihad, Blindspott and Opshop.

Achievements to date:
• Bullet for your gun - #1 across rock radio for 5 weeks in February/March 2010
• Call The Doctor - #1 across rock radio for 3 weeks in November 2010.
• PERFECT FLAWS released October 4th 2010
• Bon Jovi support December 2010
• Main stage, Homegrown, March 2011

Shame you're selling your guitar amp to concentrate on bassing.

I hear you're hard to work with, anyway.

I can vouch for that.

And Sam, hit me up if you're looking for someone a little less conventional. ;)

Ah, but you're going on the existing material, not what we're working on now...

We all have day jobs - Mike is in the navy, Matt is a music teacher, Rusty is an engineering student and I run findaband. Rock and roll ain't noise pollution but it's not exactly property development either...

That's because of my technical limitations. I am currently in the process of upgrading my wee home studio with a view to adding the industrial dimension I've wanted since day one, but haven't had the skillz to produce. I'm going to get myself up to speed as best I can. I'm leaning towards Komplete by Native Instruments as my main source of industrial niceness. I've given PT the flick to go to Logic which has been great for composing anywhere, as opposed to anywhere my VCR sized PT hardware is...

Damn Kristie...and Anthony...

...and Reuben...

...and...who else has there been?

Anyway...best of luck, Sam. It's pretty hard to find guitarists who actually practice instead of spending hours on guitar forums etc.

I know it's no excuse really. As much as it would be really cool, it honestly would take me 6 months of solid practice to keep up.
AFK.
