Early American roots music

Post by automaton_2 »

Hey all. I am interested to know if anyone out there (in Auckland that is) is into playing / performing early 20th century American folk / blues / country music - stuff like Mississippi John Hurt / Blind Blake / anything off Harry Smith's "Anthology of Amercian Folk Music" / Blind WIllie Johnson / Carter Family / Charlie Patton / Skip James / jug bands / Western Swing, etc.

I would be interested in starting a casual project performing some of these songs close to the way they are performed on the old 78's. Alternatively - if anyone out there taught guitar in these styles, I would be very interested to hear from you.

I have another band (playing a very different style), and am pretty busy generally, so any project would be, as I have said, pretty relaxed. But I like these styles alot, and think that taking an authentic approach to performing this music would be fun.

Cheers!
