Re: My quest to play like Randy Rhoads
I don't mind being the judge j/k
I think it should be solely based on playing, in the event of a tie then going to tone.
I'd really like to hear one of these solos done clean style with a rich jazz tone (semi-hollow with a maple neck would rock my world if someone's willing to indulge me) just to show that true tone comes from the fingers. Not to mention that it'd be absolutely awesome since clean tone hides no mistakes and you're really forced to play well.
Maybe someone could do one on a classical (with proper action), that'd be pretty cool.

I don't think it's going to happen, only three takers so far.Hot_Grits wrote:Wake me when you do an Ed competition.
Maybe it's just too lame for some people?
I have not organised a contest since I set up a five a side cup at school in milton keynes when I was 12.
It went well. Silver trophy and certificates at assembly.
I wonder if they still run the 5 a side cup at my old stanton middle school.

To judge the best EVH-style playing, or boozed-ness?Hot_Grits wrote:Wake me when you do an Ed competition.

Just set up the competition thread, don't bother offering cash. A lot of people probably don't read this thread but they would see a competition, and if only three people enter does it matter? I'll have another run at Crazy Train, wasn't entirely happy with my last go.Aquila Rosso wrote:I don't think it's going to happen, only three takers so far.Hot_Grits wrote:Wake me when you do an Ed competition.

Interesting to hear Eddie plugged into an actual 5150 and sounding like...a 5150. Not the usual "tone is in the fingers" hoodoo that mysteriously makes it sound like a Soldano

I was just gauging interest in this thread.BG= wrote:Just set up the competition thread, don't bother offering cash. Money makes a good motivational tool, it will make me work harder to keep my $100 and give others the chance to make some cash by doing way better. Pedal Gas Cash.
$100 was a moderate night out for me last year, so I see it as money spent having fun. I would like to offer the prize still if that is ok.
Now we have a few takers I may start a competition thread as soon as we agree a format. Soonish.
Thanks.
In the interim people can post clips here to give us an idea of what the standard we are working to will be.

You are a hypocritical, whining bitch. F*$k off and die Anthony.

The benchmark is going to be the solo from Dream Theater's Erotomania, following on from a tie, the winner will be he who can play Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn the cleanest..

Re: My quest to play like Randy Rhoads
Are some of you just taking the piss or what?
Where are your RR clips?
Where are mine?
I know of at least 4 members who want to have a go.
Let's hear some previews even if it is just a demo in a similar style.
This is tone clips. We post clips, then talk.
Come on!!
BTW, here's mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0br66_eW8 not really, this is the best Randy Rhoads clone I've found on YouTube so far. It's the tribute solo done direct to a peavey bandit, sounds Exxxxellent!!!

Cool, I'm very keen to hear it.slash-ed wrote:My recording gear will be down this Sunday, so I'll probably have a go some weeknight.
Here is my latest attempt using the marshall and the palmer. Tone is a bit fat (eq pedal will fix that) and there is still a couple of timing mistakes etc mainly at the end ,but it is getting way better.

I still don't play as well if I'm recording, maybe do several attempts while recording and take the best one next time.

Thanks Man.bbrunskill wrote:You do things on the guitar I could only dream of!
Six months ago I couldn't do anything like this, I could only play a few bit of songs and some really basic lead stuff.
So I'm really happy that I can play this well now because I dreamed of being able to play this solo since I was a kid and now can see myself getting close to to doing it, on a real Les Paul instead of an Air Guitar too .
It's is just practice and having the desire to do it.
