Resurrect me + questions
http://www.box.net/shared/qocp2mfj1d
Hey guys & girls, this is a track we have been working on (We cant use Onfire as a name anymore), its an 8mb download, I want to hear some thoughts about the bass in terms of levels and sound.
Is the bass too quiet? Im finding the bass guitar the hardest to mix. Maybe i have to rerecord it or can I fix it with fx or eq?
Just seems to be lacking the punch i was after. Any help recording wise? Im going Bass>pod>pc.
Cheers
Rob

Well it's better than And Justice for All...
I think the problem you have is that the rhythm gats are sitting on top of the bass, so maybe sacrifice a little bass from the rhythm to give the bass some more room. Out of everything I listen to on a track, the bass is probably the last pick though, so not the best ear.

Re: Resurrect me + questions
Thanks for the reply, I think my issue also lies aroun 1:22 where it the guitar and high hat carrying the tune, if I lay off the bass on the guitars will it detract from the riffage?
Hope that make sense... or should I add a fifth gat?

We f'in rock!!
Well actually Rob, you f'in rock!!! since you wrote it, and played most of it.
As for the mix, my iMac tends to make everything sound good, so I have not much useful input other than: \m/-(>_<)-\m/

Your new band name should be Fuckyeah!
For obvious reasons. That sounds choice.

Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.
Re: Resurrect me + questions
There's not much going on with the bass around 1:22 and then when it comes back in it's pretty audible, so I wouldn't about it if that's the only area you're worried about. It's mostly just the verse (?) type bits, ie rhythm part where the bass is kinda hidden. 1:22 type sections have some of the more audible bass parts later in the song so yeah, pretty good mix.
Best way to check if the bass is decent is to listen to the track without imo. Good track btw, get some vox on it!

Re: Resurrect me + questions
Thanks for the feed back, the 122 comment I was asking was if I took some of the bass out of the guitars themselves, would that riff still pack a punch?
So far though seems like everyones happy, I guess once we get the vocals in Ill have to remix it a bit anyways.
Cheers!

Sounds epic Rob! Have only listened to it with headphones so can't really comment on the mix.
