A recording from my sunday gig
This was recorded last night straight from the sound desk. It's not a particularly great recording and there are definitely rough edges to the performance, but I was still pretty stoked with how it came out. I'm on electric, but the set had an unplugged feel. There was a percussionist instead of a drummer, for example. That's me playing the melody line... ish. I was playing my Tele into my Marshall 1974x, pretty clean, with an MXR Carbon Copy set pretty subtle.
Don't mind the words, they aren't catching.

Unless James Brown turns out to be "His" other, forgotten son... I'm guessing it probably won't happen

I like that. Killer feel with the mixed vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, and the bongos (or whatever percussion instrument that was). Very nice to listen to.

One of the enduring challenges of playing music like this with a team of volunteers is trying to get people past showing off their mad chops and to play for the song (I suppose that's a challenge in all kinds of music... except maybe shred). I've played with more than a few shredders who wouldn't stop and drummers who break out double kick runs in songs not much more uptempo than this one.slash-ed wrote:needs more shred

Thanks man, (and everyone else too).Sustainz wrote:I like that. Killer feel with the mixed vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, and the bongos (or whatever percussion instrument that was). Very nice to listen to.
The percussionist was playing a bongo drum, and he also took the bass drum from the main kit and used that.

Slow songs are the best ones for shredding. And being able to shred doesn't preclude playing for the songPastasauce wrote:One of the enduring challenges of playing music like this with a team of volunteers is trying to get people past showing off their mad chops and to play for the song (I suppose that's a challenge in all kinds of music... except maybe shred). This might come across wrong but.. you know with all the trouble you have gone to ISO the perfect amp, pedals, guitar...maybe its just my computer speakers but I wouldn't be able to pick out what type or price gear you are using. I am not meaning that to come across in the wrong way I find that in alot of recordings. What other styles of songs do you guys play?
