Cover of Larry Carlton's "Last Nite"

Post by Sustainz »

Hey dudes and dudettes, I thought I'd share a little tribute I made to Mr. 335 using my Epi Dot fitted with a pair of DiMarzio DP 103 36ths and my Mesa Mini Rec. My own arrangement and backing track.

Nice playing Joe, what pedal is kicking in at about 1:30?

Mr 335 actually plays it on a strat :D
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Thanks, man. Yeah, he was using his Valley Arts Strat a lot during the mid-late 80s, kind of ironic for Mr. 335, but I've seen videos of him playing it on his 335 and a Lester.

Re: the pedal, nothing kicked in there. I used my Wilson Lotus Drive, a sort of Dumbley thing like the Zendrive, with the gain all the way off into the Mini Rec's clean channel cranked very loud (gain like noon and master wide open on the 25W setting); the amp does clip like that on its own, so the pedal really just adds some sparkle and character. The only difference between the first and second verse was the guitar volume which was just cracked open around 1-2 so it was clean for the first verse, around half-way for the second, neck pickup for both. I just used pick attack to change the dynamics and push it slightly into overdrive by digging in. The feedback section was all Mini Rec on the OD channel. The solo and final verse was the pedal and clean amp set-up with the neck pickup again, also using my Fromel Shape EQ to boost some mids and highs to try to get more of that Strat sound.
