Bassline in a song?

Post by alanp »

On the videos for Fat Freddy's Drop, they don't seem to have a bass (from memory), but that distinctive sound cuts through Wandering Eye (and is to me one of the big draws of the song.)

Anyone know what the story is?

Yer your right dude

Joe Dukie or Dallas Tamaira or as he is more well known as
Tony Chang
Fulla Flash
Jetlag Johnson
Dobie Blaze
DJ Fitchie
Hopepa

Dobie Blaze (Iain Gordon) - Keyboards <<<< pre programed bass lines. I'm assuming for studio recording they may be using a bass, not live tho.

Think the Doors, how did they do it

If you think the Doors didn’t have a bass player, you’d be only half right. While the band never recruited a full-time bassist, it called upon some of Los Angeles’s finest studio musicians to create their albums finishing with Elvis Presley bassist Jerry Scheff who brought a Memphis vibe to the band’s final offering, L.A. Woman.
Here are some of the guys they used and the albums that they appear on:

The Doors - Larry Knechtal
Strange Days - Doug Lubahn
Waiting for the Sun - Doug Lubahn, Kerry Magness & Leroy Vinegar.
The Soft Parade - Harvey Brooks
Morrison Hotel - Ray Neapolitan & Lonnie Mack
L.A. Woman - Jerry Scheff
Other Voices - Jack Conrad, Ray Neopolitan & Willie Ruff
Full Circle - Chris Ethridge, Jack Conrad, Charles Larkey & Leland Sklar.

Of course, the brilliant Ray Manzarek (sp?) also played bass with his left hand and his feet.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

Harvey Brooks played on the Miles Davis classic "Bitches Brew"

by way of introduction
"Hey fat white motherfucker what are you doing in here?".

there is an interview with Brooks in Bass Player magazine April 1991
