Strings....
Never needed to change the strings on either bass I play but I feel I should have a set of spares (just in case). Haven't got a clue where to start, don't know whats on them now even.
Help!

Ernie BAlls are always a good bet. If you like a bit twang and slap I reckon the cheap (ish) Waricks are great, they work well with a good bit of mid end. The Fender range is also quite good.
Of course DrRog will be able to tell you all about the merits of flatwounds!!

What do you need to know? Brands, sizes, types?
If they're just emergency spares Ashton strings are good value. They loose their sparkle quickly, but it doesn't sound like that would bother you a whole lot!
Darco is another decent budget brand to try. D'Angelico are good if you want some respectable quality and R Cocco are by far the best and are priced appropriately when you can find them.
I'd get a set of Ashtons as spares and a try a set of D'Angelico Hot Nickels in 45-105 or thereabouts to see how much nicer new bass strings are...

Rog? Flatwounds?
Geezer!
They stopped making flat wounds 7,000 years ago, mate. All that's left for sale is all the unsold stock. Which is pretty much all of the flatwounds that were ever made, except the 3 sets that you've purchased, of course.
I bet now your gonna espouse the virtues of those black NYLON flatwounds too!
bluesgeek,
ROTOSOUND roundwound Funk Masters, medium-light guage.

I use Thomastick-Infield jazz flats for bass. I'll never need to buy another set of bass strings - 'cos they last forever. However, if there's some weirdo out there who likes bright bass strings, don't buy these - go Rotosound!! EB flats are nice too, but only last about a year if you're playing every weekend.
Of course Rotos do root your frets if you bend on bass, but that's the prive one has to pay.
I'm using flats on my Strat also.
LOL - I used to use those black nylon covered strings in the late '60s, but they used to burn my fingers when I slid notes.

I just slapped some Roto flats on my FrankenP - they're cheap although maybe a little bright for me - hopefully they'll mellow soon, or else Its a set of TIJF for the beast.
The EB Phase II or Phase II flats are nice also and easily available here.
