P bass, or ... MM Stingray. Given the choice, I think I'd have the Stingray. It's slightly prettier.

If it feels good, you can make it sound good.
Buying to own and buying to rent are different.
Yeah I sort of thought NO as the cash would never be recuperated. Then I thought YES as the bass cost like 70 bucks and I'll probably make a new body/neck for it at sometime anyway, which will send any resale plummeting anyway ;)

If you bought good quality secondhand parts, you could always get your money back just by taking the parts off and selling them?

Mod the fuck out of it and keep as your experimental, but look out for a 5 string in the long term. There a nice 5str G&L on FB atm, run the $1k, so probably overpriced imv. I like G&L so biased, but isn't everyone. I am looking for another bass that is; lighter and has a shorter scale, e.g. mustang etc, as an alternative. Currently packing an Ibanez ATK300, which is good solid bass and cheap sh.

Yeah, ok, so mod the fuck out of it and tell the mrs not to let you sell it.

Well... I don't know that it's WORTH selling a bass for $200.

So I would probably mod and keep it because you're obviously getting more out of the bass that from a simple $200.

If you want to get a better bass afterward, that's great. But in the meantime, a simple mod can make you a lot happier with what already sounds like a good fit for you.

Ok, my initial thoughts have changed.
I don't need a 5 string. I'd only ever use the low D. So maybe I just get another 4 string or bite the bullet and always tune to drop D and workaround it. Which is my current preference.
I'll need better tuners for that.
But I need to do something about the body shape, its a bit carve top LP feel so it digs in. I'm thinking I take the belt sander to it at the weekend and make it comfortable. Then build a body that matches it. I really quite like the pickups and tone. And the neck is pretty comfortable :)

It would have to stay there to hit my budget. Besides, I'll hit up ash for some wood for the body, cost minimal, fit my belly perfect!

BG, when you hit up Ash, could you talk to me first. I want a bit of Korina from him and he doesn't answer his emails. I don't think it's anything personal!
