Is playing a bass through your 8-watt Carr a good idea? Will it hurt the delicate wee thing? Bet it sounds awesome though. 8)
He isn't running it that loud so I think it's safe, the amp will be fine it's just the speaker. Sounds REALLY nice. I also remember plugging it into my 8x10 a few years ago and being blown away by the goodness.

Mark, you can borrow my SFT any time you like if you want to give it a hoon.
What Timi said. The amp doesn't go loud enough for it to damage the speaker either. Have you damaged a guitar amp running bass through it before or something?

Oh cool man yeah I might give it a go. Love the tone through the Carr though, was just wondering what the actual bass specific equivilents are though. Sounds like bass players in general are more into modern style gear when compared with lots of guitarists.

Oh true... Personally if I thought a speaker cab maybe couldn't handle the bass I'd start quiet and increase volume slowly and you'd be able to hear if it's not going well without breaking anything. I'd be more cautious with solid state stuff though just because from what I understand they'll just keep getting louder without tastey compression which will save your speakers.

Hmm. I guess from this, you're trying to constructively help the OP by
saying your opinion is better and more correct than his?

Keep in mind for a low volume amp your still gonna need higher wattage than you would a guitar amp to get the same volume. Sorry if you know this already. I wouldn't be surprised if a 50W bass amp was the same volume as a 5-10W guitar amp, at least to human ears.
Ok I got rid of my Foal quote, but I found a new one.

Don't low wattage amps clip faster for bass? I remember hearing someone play a 20W amp on bass, then a 100 or 200W. The difference was ungodly -- hugely expanded on the bigger amp. It was like hearing Sinatra sing, versus Sinatra singing with Rocky Balboa's fist around his throat.

So just to point out, I don't think Mark is looking to play bass with a band, he just wants some badass tone at home for fun and songwriting/recording.

Haha!

Let's change the tone of this thread, back to the 60s, when modern wang was actually a good thing.

they had a mesa in a blonde finish as well. a touch nicer than the buster. photos to come when i have the chance!

with both ampeg reissuing the fliptop, handwired mind you, and ashdown putting out one of their own as well.... its looking better for us bassists.

I remember a guy who wanted to get a single 15" cab to go under his 4x10" cab ... he bought and then came back 6 months later because he didn't like the sound. A customer walking past suggested he take the back off it. So he tried it, and we never saw him back again.

It wasn't designed to be open back so I don't know what he did with the jack input, but that's fairly simple to move I guess.
Yup - that's me and my pal Steve or little stevie vai as I like to call him. In Auckland airport when I was 26. I'm not 26 anymore.

Matchless also used to do something similar to the old B15 portaflex.

On the new Luger Boa album most of the bass tracks were done with a 60's Vox AC50 and 1x15.

I'm a big fan of tube bass amps under 100w for recording,
I played a Hiwatt bass amp/combo thing in the UK - guy said it was a custom from Hiwatt back in the day.,.
