Stanley Kaye, Jaco Pastorius and the african guy that did the bass break on 'Call me Al' from Paul Simon's Graceland album.

Going back a little Jack Bruce - sunshine of your love, badge, and white room, Noel Redding with Jimmy Hendrix (little wing etc) and of course the late, great Entwhistle with Boris the Spider.

Also the bassline on 'Radar Love' by Golden Earring, Phyl Lynnot of Thin Lizzie with Boys are back in Town, Rosalie and Emerald.

Lot of good stuff out there when you think about it eh!!!
You can't do THAT on stage!

Matt Freeman from Rancid plays some of my favorite bass lines. He does a funky little solo in "Maxwell Murder" and a really nice walking line in "Journey to the End of East Bay". Pretty much everything from "... and out come the wolves" has a nice chunky bassline.

Chris Squire's playing on 'Heart of the Sunrise' gives me chills. His bass tone was way ahead of its time.

yup i'd definitely have to agree here - and Ruby Soho, Olympia, Wa...
this is what made me want to play music in the first place... 8)
i made it my mission to learn all the songs on "..wolves" (with the exception of the Maxwell Murder solo - never quite got that sussed :x ) and the intention of doing some of them as covers with a mate of mine who plays drums. He was going for 3 months to the US to visit his girlfriend so this was my timeframe.. bastard got married, never came back did he..

The bass line from symphony X's sea of lies is damn brilliant. Also the guy from primus is good, and old cliffy R.I.P Burton.

But the god is Billy Sheeam. \m/

I quite like most of the stuff that Bernard Edwards does. Disco rules! But the bass line that will never ever get out of my head is Silver Conventions Fly Robin Fly.

Ok my new favourite bass line: Steal my Kisses Ben Harper - shit that is a catchy bass riff.

I'm trying to talk the group into doing it so I spent a few hours learning it last night.

I love the solo too, took me a couple of hours to go from half speed up to full speed but it sounds great :)

We'd better do this song or I will be pissed!
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Yeah, Ben Harper's bass player is wicked. The classic big fat black mofo with rhythm up the wazoo. He has a very distinctive sound.
