Help with a Bass Guitar buying question
Hi guys,
So today I get ask by a friends Girlfirend That she is looking to buy a Bass guitar for her Boyfriend for Christmas (yeah guys they are out there)
I just need a little advice as basses are really not my area of interest and she does not want to waste her money on something not good.
Anyway Bugdet is $1,500.
The Guys is a really good Guitar player and has been playing bass on and off when he "borrow" friends equipment,
All can really tell you is that he is a Telecaster and Strat player so a Fender man. So will ned to mix will with these guitars.
Mostly plays 60 & 70 rock and has a good love of early Radiohead and Funk music (yeah pretty much anything)
Sorry guys it not much to go on, but I have no idea what to recomend.
Any ideas to make someone a very happy boy at christmas ??
My first though was Ash Radian Bass, but not sure if for sale yet
Thanks in advace

Re: Help with a Bass Guitar buying question
If he's a Tele/Strat player, I'd be looking at getting him a Precision to complement his guitars. Precisions ARE the sound of '60s/'70s rock.
Mexi Precisions are in that $$ range brand new, or you can pick up MIA used around that price from TM if you keep your eyes open.

Yeah, if he's already a fender guy, then either a Fender Precision or Jazz Bass. MIA if you can get it (probably 2nd hand), else new MIM. I reckon a Jazz bass is a little more versitile and the neck is a little narrower which I find more comfortable (die hard Pbass fan boys will disagree, but everyone else prefers the Jazz neck )

Re: Help with a Bass Guitar buying question
If you're a bassist and a Fender fanboi, you MUST have both a Jazz and a Precision.
Sorry, but that's the rules, I didn't invent them, they're universally accepted.

Re: Help with a Bass Guitar buying question
Daza, for me ... a Precision first. If you get the Jazz first, it makes it harder to get the hang of the wider Precision neck later and this could cause people to not get to grips with the instrument and stay with the 'easier to play' model, which would be a shame.
I believe the P has one brilliant sound (both pots on full) and the J a few, which does make it more versatile. However, that one P tone is a killer!
