Help with a Bass Guitar buying question

Post by TmcB »

I'm a P bass guy through and through but I'll say that a used MIA Jazz is the way to go.

Adding a series/parallel push/pull pot will get you very close to a P Bass sound, and you've still got the three distinct sounds of neck, bridge and both pickups.

Easy to play although I think there's merit in what Rog says about starting on a wider neck. a Jazz neck makes me feel super quick when I've been rocking on the P or Ray for a while.

i suppose a jazz would be a good starting point for someone who hasn't played before. they are really versatile. the whole wider neck thing has never bothered me, i mean, i own a gibson bass and a fender P, both have big necks, the gibson's neck is actually quite ridiculous.

only sold 2 basses in my life, one was a jazz and the other a stingray.

Yes very much so, I have helped a couple of parents of the kids at the guitar school I go to and it takes way longer when you know how to play it and have the person there, but as I don't play bass, all I had was my knowledge of guitars and everything looks sweet setup wise and no major dings, but strings need to be replaced.

The shop man did a couple of bass lines for me and it sounds good, also the Girlfriend (who by the way is a drummer) trusted my judgement and just told me to go for it.

Again you guys helped so much much so hats off to you
