The Hofner from Heck...

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Wasting time here sipping a beer while the Mrs is out so I though id upload a project I did a while ago...(not officially drinking alone as there is a wood pigeon in the manuka tree outside the window)

When I bought a telecaster online from overseas I spotted what looked like an old hofner in one of the pics the guy sent me. I asked if it was for sale for some more shots of the bass (being a bass player in a former life and somewhat Beatles obsessed I had always yearned for a beatle bass). He obliged and added he was after $300 for it...
What follows is a story of excitement tinged with pain (actuall pain from a heat gun and acetone)....

But at least you wont have early degenerative finger arthritis as a result of a week of gentle hofner scraping....

Amazed. Proof yet again that a well made, high quality instrument can stand the test of time (and be brought back from the dead, which in this case, was a horrible, horrible wanna-be paint job).

Like it

Did you refinish it or is this the original finish? If so, then you have done an excellent job with the heat gun as I don't see any burned bits. No wonder it was tedious.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.
