GF whispered "Babe I wanna play bass"
I'm having mixed emotions right now
Happy: I'm happy 'cause my girl wants to play the bass and jam with me
Sad: I have to jam with her
Let me add some more context...
• We'll probably just play with church mates and family members (no PRO gigs)
• Will be use for home recording (if she gets bored I can still use the bass)
• She's not into rock nor heavy metal music
• She's a member of our church choir (soprano) and knows how to read music
• She likes Hip Hop and R&B
I play guitar and know very little about bass stuff.
For the bass guitar itself, we are currently looking at Squire J Bass and Ibanez SRs
For the bass amp, we're looking at the Fender Rumble 100 and Ashdown EB112
Or should we be looking at getting 2nd hand / Used stuff since she's a beginner?

Cheers

I think you're right on the money with what you're chasing although I think it's safer to go used just in case she doesn't get into it.jumpingtam wrote:

That way, you can probably sell them for what you paid.

Short scale CAN be a PITA though. Because as soon as you want to get a better bass, you have to learn to stretch your hand like you should have done from the beginning. Oh, and strings. Not saying it's a bad idea for a beginner, just a two edged sword.godgrinder wrote:Get her a short scale bass, will be easier to get the hang of.
Never liked Fender Rumbles, but mainly because there's no headroom. Unlikely to be your problem.

Re: GF whispered "Babe I wanna play bass"
There are some higher level short scale basses around for an upgrade, but yeah there are a lot less of them compared to full scaled ones.Vince wrote:Short scale CAN be a PITA though. Re: GF whispered "Babe I wanna play bass"
not a partner like your situation so a little different, but in my late teens i taught a flatmate a few tunes on bass so we could jam parties etc. next thing he overtook me musically, fired me and him and the drummer joined a bunch of bands. bear that in mind

Re: GF whispered "Babe I wanna play bass"
I have a Greg Bennett Corsair short scale electric bass I've only used on some recordings that could work if you're interested. It's comfy, easy to play and has both Jazz and P style bass pickups. $160 plus postage and it's yours.
Contact me via PM if you are keen.
