yes...when all else is uncertain in the world I know I can rely on NZGuitar forumites to dicuss a topic n an intelligent and unbiased manner......
FGS why is a bass solo anyless valid than a guitar solo?
Are sax solos better than keyboard solos?
Should Stephan Grapelli have just played rhythm violin?
Should baritone sax not do solos cos they are a bass instrument?
anyway heres a great old story...apologies if you know this.
A British explorer was in deepest Africa with his team and a local native guide. As the jungle got thicker the sound of drums was heard...the explorer asked the guide what the drums meant,
The guide said "drums keep going no problem bwana"
After a while it started to get dark and the drums got louder.
The explorer again asked the guide what they meant. Again the guide said
"no problem bwana, drums keep going"
Suddenly the drums stopped. the explorer rushed to the guide and said "the drums have stopped...what does it meam
The guide said
"Oh no, very bad. Now Bass solo"

Haven't read the whole thread but aside from some tasty jazz bass solos, I'd go for ol' 'Thunder Fingers', John Entwistle's spastic, dribbling, drooling bass lash-out in 'My Generation'...fits like a...thing that fits nicely.

FTW
Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.

I pump Led Zep II
JPJ on Lemon Song.
