in the early 90's i did heaps of gigs on solo bass and vocals as "dylan the funky bass player"

i would play classic hits - lots of slapping, tapping, bellowing, and energy.

now i prefer "invisible except for the odd tasty run" style playing.

Often, that's the choice of the very best of bassists - those who keep the band together.

I was reading a topic on a different messageboard
who actually posts on this website I believe

He started a topic about show off drummers
I think the same applies to bassists sort of

just cause you can doesn't mean you should

I'm not sure I believe in bass solos...

That's the method I use. Everyone agrees that the drummer keeps the band in time. Not me...who keeps the drummer in time?

No, solos are not for me. I have proved my penis is small by using an 8x10 and an ampeg every gig. Why do I need to remove all doubt by solo'ing?

stu ham is the worst bass player ever.
and his signature bass is unplayable in my opinion.

but re bass solos - i used to luuuuve primus

i learned heaps of the less impossible primus tracks.

les used to rule (in the early 90's)

but if you are not playing bass guitar centric music, then solos suck - thats what widdly guitar is for!

the first two (not counting the live album) primus albums have good songs - you can strum them on acoustic guitar and they still work.
the "too many puppies" era - before he got an ada bass preamp and went all textural.

brown album and everything after suck imo.

Amen. And his singing is worse.

And his signature song is unlistenable.

How the hell did he get well known enough that we even know who he is?!?

My kids have got a 70s disco CD with some fantastic bass work on many of the tracks and the odd solo and I kinda like them. The solos are very understated and blend into the song well.

Have faith yound Adrian. Not all of us know who he is. I am aware that there is a signature bass of his, but from that, my knowledge of him runs out.

Yep, The Fender Urge bass looks crap, but the Kubicki Factor bass that he used to use looks awesome.
