I’m working offshore these days and though, when we were along-side in Geelong, I managed to get a cheap acoustic guitar aboard, normally extra luggage is not allowed for helicopter crew transfers. I play bass nowadays and am really missing having a bass instrument offshore.
I have spoken to logistics and have been told I can bring a smaller second item in a soft case – yay! This has me eyeing up traveller-style bass guitars and I am leaning towards the Kala, Wanderer, Acoustic/Electric U-BASS.

They are surprisingly deep sounding and the strings are hilariously massive to make that happen. They are a lot of fun though and would probably be a perfect solution for something you can sneak in.

The uke group I played in had one of these... it sounded good through a wee amplifier. I assume these come with an undersaddle pickup?
Yes, and have a really 'upright' bass sound through the pickup.
A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree.
I've never liked playing them. The rubber strings mean it's very hard work to slide into notes. And they just feel weird. Floppy and sticky and way too fat.
If you're just going to boomp along to chords though they're great fun.
