pino's playing on the paul young tracks in the early 80's was one of the things that made me love bass. (also the bass line to "smooth operator")

Smooth Operator is indeed a smooth bassline.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

i have a full sade concert from about 8 years ago ripped to avi.
she is actually hotter than she was in the 80's (still sings like a slightly out of tune robot, but dances like an egyptian goddess)

the bass player is an old fat bald bastard with a ponytail playing a stingray (+ chesthair and medallion).

he appears so egotistical on stage - he formed the band and i suspect he is a primary songwriter.

the way the smooth operator verse bassline includes both the major and flattened 7th is perverted:)

ill torrent it if anyone wants it.

I haven't heard that song in ages so I just sparked it up... Damn, its so perfect. Almost hard to believe its "80s" music, its timeless.

I love the bass tone. How do you get that rich growly sound? Anyone know what bass he used then?

Sade's bass player is Paul Denman and he uses Musicman Stingrays, which is why he sounds like Pino :)

Nevermind the bass solo  completely fantastic.

Paul Denman looks alot like the bass player in Kloppsta's band, Antihero :lol

Back to the man at hand... Pino. I have had this Holy Grail bass tone in my head for a while without having been able to acheive it. After looking up some Pino clips and discography I have discovered a one-step method to acheiving that tone.... just be Pino Palladino.

Funnily enough it seems that the larger portion of songs that inspired my imaginary Holy Grail bass tone were played by Pino Palladino. Fruity.

Plus it turns out that he's not the grizzled Bronx Italian I had assumed... he's Welsh. Fruity.

erm no Rog, I think you ought to defer to him in that respect - him being the greater, sorry more popular bass player and having a signature bass and all.

So you use the same strings as his sig model....
