Indescribable brilliance. I've seen 100 piece orchestras playing huge pieces and never coming close to the monolithic sound Jakob creates with 3 dudes...

MogwaiBoy's post is quite good, get's a lot down. There's definitely a lot of intricacy in Jeff's playing.

Tuning? It's a 'drouble dropped A#' I guess. Basically tune two full tones down from standard to C and then drop the high and low 'C' strings down a further tone to A#.

I often compare Jason Johnstone's playing to that of John Bonham. He's the Maori John Bonham...

Listen carefully to how tightly the three of them lock in, they all play very distinct parts that rely on each other entirely. This band is a perfect example of three distinct styles co-exist in perfect symbiosis.

Jakob are playing in Hastings tomorrow night, but no one lives in Hastings*, so not much point mentioning it :P

I keep meaning to get into them. One of the only nz bands that has really ever interested me.

What I've watched on youtube is pretty good.

I have low expectations for people from Hastings/Napier and they seem to fit in with all the big chaps/chapettes.

I've never been able to find a cd of theirs though. Mind you, I am incredibly shite at doing things properly.

Teehee.
