David Lindley also played on this!

and he plays an old Weissenborn Kona Style 3 on this (solo at 2:19)

He's also in fine form with Jackson Browne on the 'Love is Strange' live album, playing Violin, lap steel and Oud (amongst other things).

And you can't go past Lindley and Ry Cooder together. Lindley's right hand has some crazy percussive swing to it which is impossible to emulate!

Yeah, Lindley's a legend. Kinda hard to believe that people haven't heard of him.

Here's a better quality clip of him doing Mercury Blues. He's one of the first generation of players that started using one of them thar Dumble amps back in the 70s that's part of his signature sound; 50W Overdrive Special in this clip; solo @5:30.

Yep right on the money. One of his Dumbles is the second one ever made. Jackson Browne has a few too (he would later turn SRV onto Dumble).

High quality dredge, Rob. The dude is a freakin' legend. Thanks for the Jimmy Barnes one. I didn't know about that and it's a total winner.

Hawaiian Steels just got bumped up the Zombie queue ;)

Yeah, happy to see this zombie thread.

That line about Saigon in the first tune of the OP is very true.

Have you built any Weissenborn style instruments Adrian? I heard 'Driving Wheels' on my alarm clock radio one morning and thought 'That has GOT to be Lindley!' a quick google of the lyrics and I was in luck.

Too true! Good Springsteen cover. He also does many great Warren Zevon covers. ('Mutineer' for starters).

I have four hybrid Weiss-ish semi-hollow Hawaiian Steels in progress. "Progress" ;)

I did a hollow Western lap steel a few years ago. Nothing in the true Weissenborn style, though.

Nice. Are the semi-hollow Hawaiians 25" or short scale?

Hawaiian model is 25" and a smaller Weiss-ish shape, neck (and bridge if required) magnetic pickup + bridge piezo with chambers and a semi-acoustic top.

Western model is Ricky/Fender/Gibson inspired, bridge magnetic pickup, solid body, 22.5" scale.

Nice. Similar to Asher? (Bill Asher doesn't do the Piezo option though)

Might be this lap steel you're talking about:
