So how do I get Jeffs sound? Some kind of delay with a hold feature / looper and a number of other delays and a fuzz etc?

Delays are only part of it really. I've put a lot of time into trying to figure out Jeffs sound and to be frank I just discover more and more a huge amount of that sound is in his technique. A lot of really delicate and intricate playing, note choices, etc.

Reverse delay is a huge part of it too. From Hawkes Bay too, know the boys well! J is a human metronome.

Mmmm noticed the reverse, especially on Cale:drew, it's such a cool sound!

Having multiple signal paths etc is part of it too. One delay (like the DL4) might reverse delay and pitch it an octave down to one amp, while the other amp recieves the normal delay signal (or running through several others separately) which rolls underneath. Makes for a masssssssive live sound.

I guess crank up your reverb and delay and try some "volume swells" for starters.

But as was said, that'll only get you so far... alot of his sound is in his actual technique. Check out this vid

You can see.... starts with a simple revolving pattern of volume swells (obviously into delay and some other kind of reverb/synth/octave). About 32 seconds in he stamps on a pedal to start capturing that whole "pattern" as a loop, probably with his Headrush. About 44 seconds in he stamps on it again... loop captured/repeating underneath... now the fun starts... for the first little bit he continues repeating the riff, but at 1:01 he starts going up the fret board. As he does that it harmonises with the original repeating loop he just captured earlier which is repeating underneath. Voila... instant twin guitar harmonies with one guitarist using loops and delay! Remember that this is all almost perfectly in time with Jason (drummer) being an absolute time-keeping machine. Shortly thereafter you see Jeff stomp the pedal and take a breather as the loop keeps going.

About 1:27 when the camera zooms in on Jeff, you can see what Fler means about his technique. His fingers are kinda all over the place adding little flourishes to the loop. They give each other a nod and then 2:30 it's all Double Hotcake madness : )

Sure, alot of Jakob's songs do that same thing (Safety in Numbers up above being another example) and alot of their songs hang on just 2 distinct chords, but they always make those 2 chords so fucking powerful. Hence Isis being big fans

Yep I don't think they've done standard tuning since Subset of Sets, if that. I asked Jeff a few months ago about his overdrive tones. He said "Same as always, Double Hotcake bro, all I ever use" - that and cranking the shit out of those Hiwatts...Also alot of the "madness" in the loud bits is via a busted old Ibanez envelope filter/auto-wah... check this song at the 1:56 mark

All the bouncing reflections/resonances and the tubes bending like that just makes the whole "my amp's gonna explode" sound really organic.
