Hey mate, i was the one of the guys who suggested them. They pretty much top my play count on me Ipod for instrumental stuff and are one of my main influences when I write my own instra stuff. You should have a listen to Caspian too as they are another band who do this style very well.jeremyb wrote:OMFG thanks to whoever suggested "This will destroy you"

Yep, one of my favourite songs off Hawk is Howling no less! Good call Jeremy. Much looking forward to the album/dvd
Jeremy have you "past participle of get" into some stuff a bit closer to home? This is probably one of the best songs to come out of this country, ever:

A keen gearspotter will notice a Hiwatt into a Holden cab and a SF Twin Reverb
And check these guys for awesome hypnotic beat and driving gats:

(Both bands opened for Mogwai btw)
More Kiwi stuff...

Re: Post-Rock Artists
Right, all this talk about Instrumental bands has got me wondering/hoping if any one on this forum would be keen to get together for a jam with this type of music in mind? I apologise if this isn't the right forum to ask this but with the topic on Post-Rock artists i'm guessing it will interest people in this topic....
By the way, i play guitar.

I'd give it a shot but there's the tyranny of distance and all that.Mordecai wrote:wondering/hoping if any one on this forum would be keen to get together for a jam with this type of music in mind?
Still, if anyone in Welly wants to have a go at making similar music, I'd be interested. Not sure I can do it (I feel like I'm "too in your face" to do that sort of contemplative thing) but it'd be interesting to try.

Bugger! There's got to be some Aucklanders around...
On the topic of Post-Rock artists, another band i'm a big fan of is The Twilight Sad, not really instumental as they sing but the soundscapes the guitarist makes are just amazing. Definitely a keeper.

Re: Post-Rock Artists
Though we've filled some space with a Rhodes player... Sora Shima could definitely do with a second guitarist again and I need a sparing partner! We're in Hammytron though...
Album recording starts next month yay. Touch wood. OOOH.

Awesome. And art will eat itself?Timi wrote:If anyone wants to get really geeky with the "Rock" genre, check out a book call Rhythm and Noise by Theodore Gracyk.
Basically talks about the idea of Rock being a recording style rather than genre, due to the association a song has with a particular recorded version of the song rather than the song itself, mainly because most Rock music is phono art (rather than a transparent recording) which cannot be 100% replicated either live or in another recording.
