Though I thought that Ed was looking in better health and less cadaverous than he has in recent years...could he actually be sober this time?Hot_Grits wrote:That will be because they ARE rather old.slash-ed wrote: Diamond Dave and Eddie are both looking rather old.

Re: VH...maybe at last
well I listen to the single.....didn't really like it
watched the video cranked through my stereo and really liked it......
HG summed it up really.......
I see that some people are saying this songs sound very similar to one from 1977 "down in flames" and old sammy reckons the album is mainly old songs from before he joined the band ...I hope this isn't the case because I don't reckon it would be good if after 13 yrs of not doing any music they couldn't come up with anything for a new record

the best thing about it is eddie which is the way it should be .....I to hope the rest of the album steps up a notch.Hot_Grits wrote:'Tattoo': best thing since sliced cheese? -nope. Suck? -nope.
Pros:
-Nice solo from Ed.
-The sense of fun is there.
-Dave rhymes 'magic' with 'autobiographic'.
It's good to hear Dave back. He contributes what I'd call 'intelligent dumbness', as opposed to Sammy, who contributes plain old common-garden dumbness.

Re: VH...maybe at last
Just saw the video... the vocals sound too rehearsed to me, not spontaneous, if that makes any sense. The gat was a bit quiet, expected it to be louder given how EVH is one of the main attractions.
And yes I know that VH are indeed getting old, but the video looks a bit too much like a bunch of 50 year old dads dusting off the instruments that have been living in the shed and proving to their disbelieving teenage kids that, yes, they can indeed rock. The singer dude dusting off a flatcap and putting it on didn't improve matters.
It's a good track, just not as good as when they were younger. Still beats that godawful Maroon 5 shit that ZM play nonstop.

Re: VH...maybe at last
Interesting, considering that it's very likely much of the vocals will have been comped together from Dave just running through the tune doing whatever. There's a recent video of him warming-up to 'love train' by the O'Jays and he basically waffles wherever and whenever. I imagine recording him would be very similar.alanp wrote:Just saw the video... the vocals sound too rehearsed to me, not spontaneous, if that makes any sense. delays will be in a rack and through the loop. That's how he's rolled since roughly '84.

Hmm, doesn't really sound like the same song. There's bits that are similar, but then again, what band doesn't have that?matman wrote:This is interesting: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=168122 especially when you check the youtube clips.

Heard "Tattoo" and thought the song and lyrics and singing were just about as lame as you'd expect from a band that shoulda parted in the late 80's, solo was pretty good 'tho.
DLR brings the 'I'm a total cock' vibe back to the band, Hagar could out sing him even with laryngitis .
surely these guys have made enough money and can just go live life and enjoy it? It's tragic, like watching Bryan Adams on Australian idol the other night.
Relevant much?
