He actually has a really nice touch on the guitar, apart from his ridiculous technique, but he just widdles far too much. If he would just slow down a bit more of the time, or at least play with a bit more variety, I'd like him more (and that's said by someone who very definitely hasn't gone off shredding ).
He is "that fat guy" though It's a shocker

I like everyone. Even Michael Angelo Batio. I think you can learn something from anyone, even if it is just "how not to play".
Tsuken, who is the guy is your picture (next to your every post)? Is it you?

The Monkey King!
As for yngwee, shredding isn't in my tastes, so I haven't listened to more than one song of his ever. However you are right. Most boards I go to tend towards loathing him, or more often holding him and his disciples up for ridicule. I have no idea why.

He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

The main thing I'm working on in terms of technique atm is "No Boundaries" by Michael Angelo Batio. I've got a way through it now - up to (definitely not including ) the first monster sweeping bit. Michael Angelo attracts a hell of a lot of derision too - and yes, he does shred mindlessly at times - but you have to respect his chops.

In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned.
Heaven sought order.
But the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown.
The four worlds formed again and yet again,
As endless aeons wheeled and passed.
Time and the pure essences of Heaven,
the moisture of the Earth,
the powers of the sun and the moon
All worked upon a certain rock, old as creation.
And it became magically fertile.
That first egg was named "Thought".
Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha, said,
"With our thoughts, we make the world."
Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch.
From it then came a stone monkey.
The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!

It's indeed true that Yngwie is a well hated person, mostly for his incredible ability to be amazingly arrogant at any given moment. Personally I know that my technique was massively influenced by Yngwie when I was younger, and if I still practised, I think it would be now as well . But, as Tsuken said, he does the ultra fast thing too much (if that is actually possible ) and it has got a bit tired over the years. That was very evident on the G3 DVD where he was playing alongside Satch and Vai and looked, quite frankly, like a one trick pony.
That said, I still listen to Yngwie from time to time, and still really enjoy it (especially Odyssey which was a bit more commercial but still a good album). I also believe that he had a very big influence on the neo-classical guitar revolution in the 80's, which I don't think is a bad thing, but many would disagree
