I think when you need rock music and fireworks and spend hard on big stadium events to get attendance you're in a worrying place! Bring back the dark ages!!!

The music may or may not be helping but at least it is an attempt to stay relevant. There's a lot of stuff vying for peoples attention these days, we are in an information rich, instant gratification world and as God doesn't have a twitter account, how do you get new, young members to your church, without alienating the older regulars?

The current methods don't appear to be working either way.

What's interesting about those figures is that I doubt more than 5% of those who have identified as one of the Christian religions would go to church... But Muslims etc go in droves!

You are about right JB. Some recent research done by one of the megachurches in aucks showed that about 7% of NZers attend a Christian church service regularly.

I think if you started doing some holy hip hop in church, you'd get more people through the door.

Or return to the days of fire and brimstone, its probably fear driving the muslims....
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Wonder when they stopped being "Moslems" and "Mohammedans".

Worship Mob

Muslims find moslem offensive because it means something along the lines of "hateful evil person" in arabic (can't remember the particulars), and they find mohammadean offensive because Islam is particularly anti-idolatry and it suggests they are worshipping Mohammed and not Allah.

Now how about we bring this back to talking about music ;-)

Different structure. For Muslims, prayer times happen several times a day, though observation of each is down to practicality and devoutness. And prayer time is shorter. So it's regular, but quick and convenient (never far to a mosque or just pop yer blankey toward Mecca) compared to the big deal TA-DAA! That is church on Sunday.

Strange to get used to, though. In Saudi the shops shut for every prayer time. So any shopping trip is accompanied by time-out sessions. Some of this is alleviated by shops not opening at all until 5pm. You get used to it.
