This, plus heaps, but I don't like either, bore me to tears!werdna wrote:Pound for pound, a far better songwriter than Dylan. More interesting chord progressions, better production, and far more sophisticated and satisfying dynamics in the melodies and harmonies. Don't get me started on how overrated is Bob Dylan.
Neil Young's best songs.

Re: Neil Young's best songs.
This might sound weird, but I think I might need to get over myself and check his music out.
My first exposure to him?
In which he looks like a profoundly pretentious twat. (I realise this is probably intentional.)
Between that and the extended forum praise (plus media), my kneejerk reaction kicked in. "One Direction is VERY fucking popular! I never want to hear them!" "Brittany Spears is VERY popular! I'm not being pushed into anything!" "Neil Young gets a lot of praise from guys on forums! Avoid! Avoid!" (I can be a stubborn wanker.)
He was mentioned on _Sound City_, and came off as not a pretentious twat. I think I need to check him out.
And Joe Bonamassa. He's another PRAISE EVVARYWHEER! guy that kicks my kneejerk reaction going.

Jo Bonamassa...for the life of me, I just can't see the attraction...I've got lots of his music and just can't find anything that someone else hasn't done already, YMMV of course!

It was either that, or Alabama. Or both. Probably both.calling card wrote:Southern Man, isn't that the one that pissed off Skynard.

You love all the post-comeback Earth material right? Dylan Carlson was pretty heavily influenced by the (as mentioned) fantastic soundtrack Young improvised for the movie Dead Man, the first album they put out after all those years "Hex" in particular.alanp wrote:This might sound weird, but I think I might need to get over myself and check his music out.

Always found Dave Matthews a bit smooth for my liking, but I do like this version of CtK - Warren Haynes plays with some real soul:

Cracking tone too!
