Now that it's no longer played to death, I'd say the album "Harvest" is pretty bloody good.

All the above
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Oh, and I absolutely LOVE the "Dead Man" soundtrack as well. Not sure it counts as "songs" though.

It really is something else. I've tried covering that acoustically, but you need that spongy fuzzy, fucked up guitar. It's not the same without it. It's the tune that got me into Neil young in the first place, really.

I read somewhere that it should've been longer, but they dropped the last verse and faded 'cos the tape ran out.

I generally don't like Neil Young, especially Hey, Hey, My My... but in the spirit of this thread, I LOVE Cinnamon Girl. When people talk about him being the Godfather of Grunge, I generally assume they are referring to this song in particular.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Sugar Mountain: One he wrote when he was quite young, which set the standard for following material. Beautiful acoustic guitar work; typical Young style of hammer-ons and pull-offs on the cowboy chords. Nice meaningful lyrics. He can bring you into the song. Like how a good writer can absorb you into the book, making you feel as if you're there - he can do that with his songs.

Like A Hurricane: Outstanding song. Great guitar work, even if slightly unpolished, it's brilliant and raw at the same time. An epic, in that great era when there were great bands and musicians, unlike nowadays. Cortez The Killer is another epic in the same mold.

A Man Needs A Maid: Quirky lyrics, soulful piano - shows the talent of the man, to put the guitar down and switch instruments, and completely succeed in the process. You just couldn't play a song like the on the guitar, and have the same effect and provoke the feeling/mood of the song.

Ohio: Taking a strong event/subject, and turning it into a memorable piece of music isn't easily achieved, but 'ol Uncle Neil can do it better than anyone.

Tell Me Why is my personal favorite.

I don't have a lot of classic Young but I dig his stuff.

Mirrorball that he did with Pearl Jam as a backing band is awesome.
