Lake Street Dive - 1st time in NZ

Post by Jay »

Not everyone's cuppa but I kind of dig them. Especially Rachel Price... Great voice!

Gonna see them in March in Auckland. Anyone else going?

Wife and I are thinking about it. We really want to see them but not looking forward to finding and paying for parking in Auckland.

Find a park just outside CBD (ie, Mt Eden) and I'll pick you up (provide we are going on the 12th). PM me if you are interested.

Saw them last night. Absolutely Awesome. Rachel's singing was superb and accompanied by lovely harmonies.

Funny setting in a Spiegeltent but quite nice atmosphere. Great crowd.

They play two more nights, if you were hesitating to see them.. don't!

IMO the two 'girls' carry the band... And I don't say that in a demeaning way as both gents are very good too. It's just that those ladies have that something special. They are Womad tomorrow. Go see them Naki!

I'm not sure I agree with that- the drummer adds something pretty damn special to the mix too, as does the guitarist/trumpet player. It's just that the two girls have a very in-your-face contribution. That drummer is spectacular.

I really loved it when they busted out the Van Halen.

I think we both agree they are darn good. I was sitting 5 rows from the front but still used my binoculars to get some more detail. He is playing a Moniker guitar with what looks like P90's and a Bigsby.

Had a look at the Moniker website but it is all custom build stuff. Not sure what sort of effects he was using but some of them were growling in a nice way.
