James Williamson is still alive and kicking! Did you mean Ron Asheton? He passed away in 2009. His brother Scott (the drummer) passed away a year ago.

I just checked and you are correct. It is a news tag at the bottom of the Renbourn story. Never occurred to me it would be 6 years old.

I still remember a winter's evening when I first heard his Faro Annie album.

I was in a small, 2nd hand record shop in Newtown (Sydney) and I was curious about what the music would sound like so the guy working there said "Ok, I'll just play it for you" and it was just... magical. I can still remember the feeling of being totally overcome by the music. And that sitar on the old folk songs. So fascinating. I had to buy that album right then and there.
