Promo shot thread
My band is going to get a demo made soon and we really should get some sort of promo shot.
I was wondering what are some of your favourite band promo photos? I really want some ideas.
NB: not live, concert stuff because then we'd have to get a gig and decent lights and all that shit.
I myself really like PF's Arnold Layne stuff

Re: Promo shot thread
Just back on topic for a mo. If you search 'band promo pics' it's depressing how similar they are. Lots of earnest looking chaps standing in a line. The guitarist is often holding his guitar so we know he's not the bass player
Edit: Noticed: Shit Band Promo Pics gets much the same results as Band Promo Pics except there's more Iron Maiden.

Yeah, that's pretty much ground rule #1The Scarecrow wrote:Avoid train tracks & brick wall backgrounds.
I'm kind of fond of the "band in kid's playground" thing at the moment

Check out one of those 50 most awkward band / album cover clickbait pages and merge all the weirdest bits together, will be magic!

Re: Promo shot thread
Not so sure about the band in playground concept - unless you're talking about when the kids aren't there.
Most photographic thing I've seen in recent times was I got to go into a venue the night before a big rugby game. It was dead empty and bathed in moonlight. Very eerie. But depends on what you're trying to convey doesn't it?
Live shots with punters loving it probably a good idea - but if can't do that and you're trying to convey "we're serious artists" you could do art gallery/museum thing. Or go really serious and cover yourself in paint or jelly

They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.
