Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Yeah well he has released a shit ton of material, over 260 studio albums actually. I've listened to a lot of it and I think the good majority of it awesome. (Don't really get into his halloween stuff tho)
The guy lives in the studio pretty much. A lot of the guitar work he did on Chinese Democracy was great I thought too.
Try and tell me this isn't awesome..

That's easy, because it isn't awesome (YMMV etc ). Pretty generic 80s shred in that example, nothing that jumps out as particularly original.griff7628 wrote: Try and tell me this isn't awesome..

I do like some of his stuff but even on Chinese Democracy there's parts where it's all chops and no style.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Actually one of the only albums that can be obtained on Vinyl.
But listen to a number of his pikes, and he's mixing things up all the time. Here's one of his later ones..

Zillatron with Bootsy Collins and Bill Laswell is pretty good
Laswell's Black Arc line released some cool stuff.

Not a KFC fan. Of all the main fast food outlets, they're most likely to give me the shits.
Back on topic.
I actually bought the first Buckethead album as a new release. Or rather, I think (too lazy for google) it was a Bill Laswell project under the name Praxis, with Buckethead on guest solos and various P-Funk alumni involved. I was on a Funkadelic kick at the time (early 90s) and tracking down anything associated, plus I read a magazine article hyping Bucket as the Next Great Guitarist, hence the purchase. I swiftly learned that anything involving P-Funk and not stamped in the 1970s is best avoided.
Thereafter I only heard one Buckethead album (bought on CD, in the CD era), which I'm reminded of above; it was COLMA. I only liked one track on it, the generic 80s shred one.
I don't doubt he's good and would welcome suggestions for the best generic 80s shred moments amongst the 118 albums he released in 2015.
Pop quiz: would Buckethead be more/less revered if he was called Joe Smith and wore a baseball cap?
