Bernie Marsden

Post by werdna »

Bernie Marsden is a great blues rock guitarist. Not only did he play with IMHO the best rock singer ever, David Coverdale, in Whitesnake before they got out the peroxide and cod pieces, but his guitars of choice were a Gibson SG double neck and a '59 Les Paul. Fabulous. That alone puts him alongside the awesome Jimmy Page, and Don Felder. Such taste in guitars, phrasing and melody.

Check out his outro solo.

And here he is playing the Beast, the '59 Les Paul that weighs a lot more than most. Tasteful solo, although I think his tone is too processed here.

In life, don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Yep, have always loved bernies playing and phrasing. Alongside Micky Moody, what an awesome pairing! I don't have time for the codpiece era of Whitesnake, but 'classic' whitesnake is never far off rotation on my playlists. And the beast is a helluva LP :)
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Watched this a few months ago, found it pretty interesting. Massive output on Bernie's original '59, even Joe B reckoned it's one of the loudest ones he's played.

Bernie is such a down to earth guy, you would never know he was a famous guitarist if you met him down the pub.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
