Thought this could be an interesting read to find out what got our wheels spinning. So what were the videos/DVD's that you played over and over again in awe of what you were watching and hearing?

For me there were a couple. I discovered Marillion in the late 80's and Steve Rothery was just God to me.

Marillion - Live From Loreley: Oh my, that clean tone. The searingly smooth lead tone. Nowadays I prefer the Post-Fish Marillion but this was spellbinding stuff to a 13 year old kid. I wore the video out.

SRV - Live at the El Mocambo: This was my introduction to SRV and I can remember sneaking down to watch it after my parents had gone to bed. It was this video that cemented my desire for a Strat and thick strings. Happy days

Same SRV. Also a Lizzy gig - John Sykes' first ever with the band. Watched that to death (usually instead of going to college). Jake E Lee Ozzy gig. And random bits recorded from The Tube etc. such as Vai's God Blessed Video with Graham Bonnet and Malmsteen's Hiroshima Mon Amour with the same floral shirt wearing dude.

Dad recorded Corrie for my Mum right over the top of much of it. Utterly catastrophic at the time. Zero chance of replacing it.

Had a SRV interview from The Old Grey Whistle Test that I watched a lot too until someone spilled coke on the cassette and it was never the same again.

Can't say there have been many videos that I really obsessed over... But Iron Maiden - Behind the Iron Curtain was pretty memorable. You'd hardly ever see metal videos on NZ TV back in the day, so when I got my hands on that one it was the first time I'd really seen them in action.

I also watched Crossroads a lot during a brief period in my teens where I was quite into Vai (mostly via DLR Eat Em and Smile) and was also getting into the blues. It was a good intersection of those things.

I'm the same with SRV - Live at the El Mocambo, theres a jeff Buckley I used to thrash as well. RHCP live at slain castle and all four of the clapton crossroad offerings, in particular the middle two. Bill Murray made those gigs!

Can't really think of anything in particular. I used to watch the G3 dvds quite a lot. Like harvey^ RHCP at Slane Castle is another one I thrashed. Ah and also Alice in Chains unplugged

no DVD has been pivotal for me because everything was well and truly in grained before they were even a thing

Now VHS is a different story......

Ozzy Osbourne "bark at the moon-live in salt lake city" is by far the biggest moment in not only my guitar playing but I would go as far as to say Life. It is the entire reason I started playing guitar....as a fourteen year old, seeing Jake E Lee doing his thing on stage was one of those moments where you say man I have to do that...obviously never got to the big stage but i'm still "there" in my head anyway

These days its all track by track on youtube though... kinda sad.

That's the one I was thinking of. Watched it to death. Had the Bark at the Moon solos down. That and Randy's live Mr Crowley. They were my party-pieces. Great gig.
