Beano Album. Still one of my favorites. Guitar licks on that album are ripper and the tones are pretty hard to beat.

I'm not a fan but i've read it. Alright to the point where he gives up the junk then shite for the rest.

That's three pretty good tunes.

Most of his original stuff on the live album 24 Nights and on Slowhand I can bear to listen to. In fact some of it is excellent, in the former case mainly because of the quality of the keyboard player. Otherwise I have trouble relating to his music.

He's the only one of the bunch who can improvise a solo of any length which sounds like it was worked out beforehand.

The trouble is that he almost always sounds like it was worked out beforehand, largely in the sense that he usually sounds bland and derivative. There are plenty of examples of Hendrix slowly building solos in a musically interesting way while playing live.

Having said that, I doubt that Vai ever plays anything that is not worked out in advance, but more often than not, sounds interesting, despite his apparent inability to do anything other than the Vai sound.

I must be getting old, hearing about Clapton's Christmas album doesn't trigger excessive eye revolutions. I won't buy it, but I won't froth if someone else tries to play it to me. Hand me my walking cane.

I remember bringing this up a few years back and being shot down due to my generation.
I went away and listened to a bunch of stuff that weekend, Beano album's not bad, but I still say, he's massively overrated, sorry.

Tell ya what, to listen in context spend the week listening to pre-1966 guitar music, nothing but music produced and released prior to 1966, for a week. No radio, no random YouTube, iTunes and Spotify, just playlists from before 1966. Then put on the Beano album.

You will get it.
