Hey, just checked out Dir En Greys myspace page, I got a chance to see them when they were on the family values tour. It’s kinda like the Deftones meets X-Japan – glam meets hardcore. They have a new album coming out on feb. 20 "the marrow of a bone"(here's a track from it for those of you who are interested)

I’m thinking about seeing a show of theirs with another intern at umgd in February. How do you think they stack up with other Japanese bands? Would America eat them alive?

Pure, unadulterated shite
I don't hear any Deftones influence in that track at all. Perhaps if Chino got his head run over by the tour bus and the part of his brain responsible for musical talent and good taste was pounded into roadkill, he might come out with something like that. The singer of this band has that "I just got raped by a chainsaw" kind of desperation about him, reminiscent of the fucktard from Glassjaw... only worse (I never thought it was possible).
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think I have a pretty open mind and can usually hear something good in most music, but this is just terrible.

I just realised, the guy from Glassjaw is the same guy from Head Automatica. Less chainsaw in Head Automatica.

At 2.22 you get a glimpse of the proceedure I mentioned in my previous comment.

However, Boris are beyond amazing!
