Whaaa that's a metal guitar if ever I saw one. Except it's in a suit instead of pink spandex.

Adrian, memory is fuzzy but didn't you have a design called the Diablo that was the same sort of body shape? Or is this what you're calling it now?

Looks lovely, striking combination of colours.

I like how it looks radical despite combining classic design elements; violin cut aways (probably the wrong name for them) plus guitar double cut aways and carved top. Interesting New Zealand timbers too, very cool.

I think the shape is very clever. Turning the classical violin shape into a modern rock guitar... yeah!

Yes, Diablo is the long-scale version of this. Visionless Guitarist's Diablo is standard scale, though, same as this one. Same body shape, headstock, pickups, controls. Different top-carving, materials and neck. There's a Diablo-2 coming, which is quite different looking, but does the same tricks.
tonymcbony wrote:I notice that when left to your own devices, you seem to create guitars that have a very PRS crossed with BC Rich kind of flavour, Ash.
The PRS flavour is definitely there in many of my designs (Heilo, Diablo, Katipo, Aurum), but the BC Rich thing is usually the customer's doing. For the most part I don't like BC Rich designs, although I can see the common ground with this one.

:D you's should see it in the flesh, dam its sexy. very clear sharp tone with some nice low end, am running thru a JCM2000 TSL100, the highs are crisp as. different pup positions change the sound amazingly, my diablos the same but katipo's got much more distinctive low end which really shows on neck pup as it tames the highs and blends everything, smooth subtle sound, in bridge position sharp as crisp tone, but the low E and A stay quite smooth, each string stands out so well in distortion.

i'l suss out some tone clips once the honeymoons over, right after i've worn my power tubes out :P
success is fleeting, but artistry lasts forever.

NEXT! Last one for 2010. There were a couple of others I wanted done by today, but fate had other plans.

Ash Heilo Custom:

Rather than the usual curvy carved top, the owner wanted something a bit different and asked for a beveled top after seeing Rubear's one in a partly carved state.
This one sounds unusually good right from the start. i think it might be because of the nice old mahogany in it. I haven't used this batch before.
