First time I've ever had them all out at once.
Needed to be done; I wasn't sure how many there were.
Gone a bit crazy lately, Slowy!

What the hell are you doing with that pointy thing on the top of the couch???!!!

LP SB S.jpg
Picked this up a few weeks back. I've given it the usual spruce up and now it's playing and sounding lovely.

I'm going to rewire with the braided stuff, but i've done a quick test of the triple shots and replacement pickups before getting too far ahead of myself. It's all working as it should. I can't say the same for the other LP

Pearly Gates in the neck and 59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge. Good times.

I think some chrome keystone tuners would look the part but otherwise it's looking good.

As per usual, a few decently priced studios have popped up since this one. Ah well. I paid a premium at the time but i have to move on. I'm happy with it :)

But not any silver burst ones though. Don't see many of those, and that's what you really wanted right?

The silverburst definitely sweetened the deal but didn't seal it. Goldtop and tobaccoburst are equally as nice but the same deal, not many around.

It was the right neck profile that did it for me :) and the ebony fretboard is a bonus

The only electric I own. Ibanez Talman TV750. Bought it in the 90s from CJs in Christchurch. Some people hate the headstock (and the overall look !) - but I love it. Two-humbuckers and a lipstick middle pickup, 5-way selector switch. Single volume and tone control. Middle pickup has never done anything for me, but the wee humbuckers are great. Lost the tremolo arm, but I never used it much anyway. The body is "resincast" - which I think basically means MDF :|
Ibanez recently re-issued these (Talman's changed to a semi-acoustic for a while there in the 00s).

Those are cool. There are all sorts of variants floating around.

Yeah I like it. At the time, CJs had a big range of them, but this was the one that caught my eye (and ears). I liked the 'gold' hardware, although that has worn off on the pickups a bit.
There is a bit of fret buzz now on a couple of strings up at the 14th fret, but I don't tend to climb to those giddy heights very often, so not an issue. Although I should probably sort it to make sure it isn't some neck warping issue...

What with one thing and another, this took a long time to finish. Sat down with it for an hour this morning and was pleasantly surprised.
I'd got the action sorted a while ago; it's a sweet player.
The single coil Toneriders just seemed wrong for a Mahogany set neck, so in went a pair of Duncan L'il59s with a Duckbucker in the middle.
So what have I got?

Position 2 and 4 through a clean amp sound like a fat, dark Strat. Tonally useful but you wouldn't replace a Strat with them.
Up the gain and things get excellent. All 5 positions are useful but my favourite is the neck. It has that same throaty roar I love so much from a Les Paul. Got nothing else that does this so it's worth the price all by itself.
I know for a fact it can't hold its own against a PRS Swamp Ash Special but for a total of $750 it's a killer little guitar and I'm really glad I went to the trouble to bring out its best. :D

Speaking of PRS...

I can't remember who but someone suggested this brilliant boredom prevention measure. Only have one or two electric guitars out at a time, and rotate the rest in/out of storage. Cloudy cool morning here, got up early, made a cuppa and pulled out my PRS. New strings, cleaned the fretboard and scratchy pots, general wipe down... and now I'm discovering why this guitar is the one that has stayed with me the longest. It's not flash, it's just a pleasure to play. A very utilitarian guitar.

Not too sure what to do with this impulse purchase.

Solid brass trem. Was probably gold plated at some time in the distant past. I think 2 piece mahogany body.

Image

I think it used to be a Tokai springy sound.

Image

No markings, but whoever made the body was competent.

Image

Electrics all functional. Full size pots, I can't identify the pickups.

Image

Vintage frets, vintage radius and I think soft V neck.

Was a bit disappointed to see this crack in the heel.

Can't decide between fix (glue neck crack, replace Cort tuners with klusons) or too far gone, put it back on TM.

The correct answer is the former
