NGD - Tokai Tele
Went to several shops and had a hoon on many tele-style guitars this morning. Many.
Classic Vibes, Mex stds, American stds, highways... everything was pretty much eliminated in seconds, until I was handed THIS.
Tokai made in Japan. Ash, double binding, Golden sunburst. Most obvious difference between this and all the others I tried was the neck - rock solid in stability and a good amount of chunkiness without going overboard. Yay! GAS-crisis partially averted.

That's stunning, how much did it set you back if you don't mind?? Similar price to MIM fenders etc?

That is a very good looking Tele. Far too pretty to be a Fender
My first Tele was a Jap Tokai. Still a big fan. Where did you get it?

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Yep, I've seen one just like that at my local Rockshop. Looks superb. I've not played it, but if the quality of the finish and my Tokai LP are anything to go by, I'm sure it plays and sounds lovely as well.
Re: NGD - Tokai Tele
They are $1189 (down from $1399). Actually walked in with the intention of grabbing a CV50 (Classic Vibe), but of course once I started playing guitars I knew I was barking up the wrong tree. My own personal opinion is, why would you even go near a Mexican model or Highway or whatever when these are so good. Hell, I even like it better than the USA std I tried but now we are probably walking into subjective/taste territory.Enigmur wrote:That's stunning, how much did it set you back if you don't mind?? Never thought I'd be walking out with a Tokai, but it was the clear winner. Very impressed.

Big thing for me was physically trying stuff out, and not buying over the internet. Every guitar was so completely different.

Oh no, it's probably still en route from ChCh. The donkey broke down near Taupo, last I heard....

That looks really nice. Sunburst with a maple board... that's pretty much exactly the kind of Tele I am gassing for.

Re: NGD - Tokai Tele
Almost looks like you stole my deluxe and put binding on it! (Quite a few other differences too) but Ash body with maple neck = awesome tele sounds
Needs a deck or a fence in the pics though.
