Re: Excessive Gear Day (EGD) Thread
Your board is probably the one thing that doesn't need distilling. Looks tight and refined!null_pointer wrote:Ok, while not as ridiculous as some, I am starting to agree with my wife that I actually do have a little more gear than is strictly necessary. She made me tidy up the rumpus/music room today as I'd spread out over the whole room, and afterwards once it was all stacked nicely against the wall I had to admit there was a little more than I probably need.
I think a distillation will be in the works in the coming months, I just don't really know where to start!

What is that awesomeness on top of the Mode Four cab? Is that the Peters Chimera? Looks utterly demonic...godgrinder wrote:Got some rack preamps/poweramps that are not in the picture, but here are most of my amps:

That's actually a JCM800 Kerry King. Bought it off a friend, it had the retarded tribal graphics so he blacked out the chassis and grill cloth. Looks way better than stock.Darth Sabbathi wrote: What is that awesomeness on top of the Mode Four cab? Is that the Peters Chimera? Looks utterly demonic...

Re: Excessive Gear Day (EGD) Thread
As per my workshop post, most of my gear could be classed as excessive as it never sees the light of day, far less played!!
See, you fullas all have your "excessive" gear out and in use; that's not excessive at all, but necessary, I think you'll agree!
Funny seeing all of the huge amp/cabs there; as soon as I could get away with not carting the godawful heavy things about, I did just that!! Bought a little 35w valve amp and ran it through the PA!!

There is no sort of aberrant behaviour that cannot be modified by use of the correct ammunition!

Re: Excessive Gear Day (EGD) Thread
I find tube combos a lot more awkward to carry than separate heads/cabs. If I'm being weight conscious I'd be running a modeller unit with IEM.corsair wrote:Funny seeing all of the huge amp/cabs there; as soon as I could get away with not carting the godawful heavy things about, I did just that!! And small combos never sound like 100w stacks anyway.

Yep, true but proper miking up of said little amp goes a long way to tricking the the ear!!godgrinder wrote:And small combos never sound like 100w stacks anyway.
I very rarely played a gig where I needed a full stack, eh, hence the downsizing!

There's no gig that "needs" a full stack. In fact there's no gig that even needs a real amp.corsair wrote:I very rarely played a gig where I needed a full stack, eh, hence the downsizing!
But unless you're an established touring musician then you'd be mostly playing for your own entertainment than anything else. And it's more fun to be excessive IMO.

This is exactly it. Over they years I've observed that once the drummer starts, you can't hear anything anyway.godgrinder wrote:There's no gig that "needs" a full stack. So its better to have a bloody big quad and something punching it, so at least you stand a chance and you're having fun I dimed the JTM45 at the last mission bay blues fest, I loved it and the crowd loved it Ok, they may have been stood back a few feet....
Pretty much stopped playing live after that, you can only take so many requests to turn down or play 'something we know' so whats the point if you're not having fun?
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.
