Re: NGD: Gibson SG Standard
Dammit. Instead of going to University and doing computers I should have done a PHD in guitar sustain. Could've spent a couple years on top wrapping experiments. Might've been more girls on the campus.

At least this bit makes sense.JHorner wrote: I have been drinking for an hour now.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Mine now go through the tele body. Somehow still managed to drill the ferrules on the piss, even though the pilot holes were perfect. Oh well, its all character building.Slowy wrote:Don't you know: If the strings don't feed through the body, you're not even in the game.Delayman wrote:Haha - yep. A drill press would sort that out.Bg wrote: Mine now go through the tele body. Somehow still managed to drill the ferrules on the piss, even though the pilot holes were perfect. Oh well, its all character building.
Still haven't plugged this thing in! Loving the slim taper neck though, struggled a bit on my mates '13.
Loving it so far

I have a drill press, it didn't help. It was down in the basement when I used my rechargeable black and decker. Its only tele.StratMatt88 wrote:A drill press would sort that out.Bg wrote: Mine now go through the tele body. Interesting, glad you like it, everyone seems to rave about massive necks on their guitars, maybe it's because I'm not much more than a beginner but I prefer something a bit slimmer.

Re: NGD: Gibson SG Standard
It's more to do with hand size and technique. If you put the ball of your thumb on the back of the neck shred style, you'll hate a fat neck. I just wrap my paw around it and like the neck to completely fill that curve between thumb and index finger.Glacial Pace wrote:Interesting, glad you like it, everyone seems to rave about massive necks on their guitars, maybe it's because I'm not much more than a beginner but I prefer something a bit slimmer.
Just personal taste but luckily, I'm also of the opinion that fat neck and big strings = moar tonez.

Makes the strings feel floppy tho', you really wanna go up a gauge if you do it!Delayman wrote:Haha - yep. I've ended up liking both...I tend to play differently on the various sizes which keeps things fresh.Glacial Pace wrote:Interesting, glad you like it, everyone seems to rave about massive necks on their guitars, maybe it's because I'm not much more than a beginner but I prefer something a bit slimmer.

Re: NGD: Gibson SG Standard
So what is the best bang for buck SG out there
Seems like I've been living in a bubble thinking there was only one kind lol
Done some googling and I'm liking the SG that Pete thownsend had and I love the faded mahogany models

Re: NGD: Gibson SG Standard
Often wondered about this, people seem to have have strong preferences, but then you see some pros jump from fender to Gibson to vintage to modern on stage. Also on a ukulele you'll see a giant of a man on a tiny necked instrumentGrantB wrote:I've ended up liking both...I tend to play differently on the various sizes which keeps things fresh.Glacial Pace wrote:Interesting, glad you like it, everyone seems to rave about massive necks on their guitars, maybe it's because I'm not much more than a beginner but I prefer something a bit slimmer.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Re: NGD: Gibson SG Standard
I've never really taken much notice of neck size, width or scale length. I seem to be able adjust easily enough when I swap guitars. SGs did take a bit of getting used to just because of where they hang when you play them standing.
