New boost day: VFE Focus
Saw someone recommending this one on another forum, which piqued my interest. Tracked down an used one and recorded a little clip with it. To make a somewhat over the top example, I had it boosting a bass amp.
https://soundcloud.com/godgrinder666/vf ... -meatsmoke
First part is with the pedal off. Then for each repeat I gradually cut more bass on the pedal. Other settings on the pedal unchanged.
Guitar: ESP M1NTB w/ Lace Deathbucker
Preamp: Verellen Meatsmoke
Power amp: Fryette 2/90/2
Cab: Krank SST412
Speaker: Eminence V1216
Recorded with a Tascam DR-05
It's basically EQ pedal with only LPF and HPF filters, you can dial in the cutoff frequency and the slope. Has a pretty decent range and quite flexible. You can get it to work in a similar way as a Fortin Grind too (slow bass rolloff from ~1kHz).
Amps:
Soldano SLO100 x2 | Wizard MC1 & MC2 | Diezel Herbert
Fryette Pittbull CL | Marshall 2203KK | Krank Rev 50 | Mesa Mark 2A
Rack stuff:
VHT/Fryette GP3, GP/DI & 2/90/2 | Peters FSM/Chimera
Verellen Meatsmoke | Synergy SYN1 | Mesa Studio

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
Damn, the more i read about it, the more i want one lol. I recently got an MXR M108 to help tweak my 7 strings EQ but this would be much better suited for the job. Time to start hunting.

They have some left on the site but they're a bit spendy:

Could be a cool DIY pedal once the schematic surfaces?

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
I really like the idea of this. The one thing I'd prefer would be for it to have a Tilt control as well, but it's pretty great to see both HPF and LPF, plus gain, plus parallel blend.

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
Hmm i had to look up what tilt control is. VFE have a new eq coming out soon called the "Pinball Tilt Equalizer" but that doesn't have the parallel blend

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
Tilt Eq is a pretty powerful single knob eq. Middle is neutral, turn right to boost treble and cut bass, turn left to cut treble and boost bass. My favourite one (softube tonelux tilt) has a button that switches it so that you can cut or boost both treble and bass, but leaves the mids.Mattallica wrote:Hmm i had to look up what tilt control is. The Fender Pro 185 SS amp had a tilt control built in, so the idea has obviously been around for a while.bender wrote:Tilt Eq is a pretty powerful single knob eq. If you can wait for the next batch it's cheaper, it's now called "Standout":Mattallica wrote:They have some left on the site but they're a bit spendy:

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
Yes. It's not new. I think the tone control in the original Muff pedals was a tilt. But I could be wrong about that.H671 wrote:The Fender Pro 185 SS amp had a tilt control built in, so the idea has obviously been around for a while.bender wrote:Tilt Eq is a pretty powerful single knob eq. Can be useful if you find it cutting too much for your taste even when in 6dB/octave rolloff mode.Mattallica wrote:Do you find the the mix pot useful? I'm kinda liking the old layout better

Re: New boost day: VFE Focus
How high and low do the filters go? Just thinking that you could easily use it to just boost mids or highs by setting the mix to 50% and dialling in the range you wanted to boost.

Should have enough range to do what you were thinking about. The new version will have even wider range but goes a bit beyond what I need.TIGHT RANGE: 70Hz to 1.5kHz.
SMOOTH RANGE: 320Hz to 7.2kHz.
