Here's a comparsion of a Celestion Gold, a Celestion V-Type, and an Eminence GA-SC64

Recorded on a Duet 2 with a Heil PR22 pointed on axis mid cone.

Guitar: Fender HotRod '52 with Keystone single coils into a Deluxe Reverb Vintage/Vibrato channel with bright cap, settings Vol 3.5 on clean, 5 dirty, Bass at 6, Treble at 6, reverb on 5

Order goes:

Clean
Bridge, Middle, Neck
Clean with Reverb
Bridge Middle Neck
Dirty (No reverb)
Bridge Middle Neck

Apologies for the mic distortion, I picked it up too late :(

Great demo! Covered lots of different styles. No doubt there will be some equally good quality Silverpistol demos coming soon too?
They all sounded pretty good, not sure I could pick one over the other if I had to choose a favorite.

Thanks!

That's your gold btw :D

Yeah, they're all pretty sweet but I settled on the GA-SC64 as a happy medium - still has nice mids but not as upper mid heavy as the celestions, with fewer highs than the Gold and less wooliness compared to the V-Type. All were quite nice in the amp, and the Gold lost because it was more expensive without adding much I wanted in a Fender. If I had a Vox though...

The differences were too subtle for my computer speakers but anything with Mr Alessandro's name on it is probably a good bet.
Played one of his Beagle amps once; sounded fabulous but you couldn't gig it. Looked like a fusion of beautiful furniture and fine art.

kinda hard to compare as they appear to differ in vol and attack the last one has a lot more drive and fuzz but I like the brightness of the gold, the middle one sounds more reverby and distant,
the samples look different is that just because of the speaker change?

I think they may differ in efficiency but yeah, any difference is down to the speaker itself.

What's interesting is that in the room with it, the Gold is bright with a bunch or upper mids that make it lose all its "Fendery" goodness. It just sounds like a Fender attempting to be a Marshall – a nice noise but kinda weird at the same time. It's also fearsomely bright in person.

The V-Type has a lot in common with the GA-SC64, with the V-Type having more Celestion upper-mids and looser low end.

The GA-SC64 just sounds "right" – solid but not wooly lows, nice fat mids without an apparent spike, and slightly reduced treble that suits the fairly bright amp well.

I wonder what the Celestion A type speakers would sound like?
