FS: MPC Princeton Reverb '65

Post by Mini Forklift »

I've had this a month or so, got it in a trade for my Katana combo. Finally managed to track down some more 'period-correct' black knobs as the beige chicken knobs it came with were messing with my OCD 8)

Swapped out the Chinese 12AX7's for a Soldano one and a couple of Mullard's, stuck a nice old 12AT7 in V1. Also replaced the Chinese 5AR4 GZ34 rectifier tube with a Tung-Sol, straight away I noticed a bit more volume and also more bottom end.

She's a keeper!

Obviously it's not a strict 65 Princeton clone, with a mids control and no tremolo.

It was built for hjelmsk, one of the forumites on here. I believe he requested the mids control in place of the tremolo. It's pretty useful actually, once it's past midway it also starts to dial in some gain.

Would have to be one day when the whole Street is not at home. I get the feeling his amp really comes to life with a bit of volume to it - which probably means it's also going to be problematic to record.

Give me a yell next time you are passing by and have some time on your hands :-)

Would love to but you know how it goes...

Just did a run to the tip and diverted into a cafe on the way back. Got a Chris Robinson album on the go. :-)

I need to book some space to crank the amps for the day. Strictly no kids.

... and up FS due to a major case of amp GAS.

I have swapped out the mostly Chinese valves for quality ones, replaced the original Chinese 5AR4 GZ34 rectifier valve with a Tung Sol ordered in from the States. I kept the Chinese one as a spare so will include this with the amp.
Bought a new brown leather handle for it that matched the colour of the grille, will include the original handle.
Have also swapped the control knobs for the period correct Fender ones - again I will include the beige chicken knobs that it came with.

* 12" Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker
* NOS Russian 6V6's
* Valve-driven spring reverb
* Tremolo swapped out for a 'Middle' control, very useful. Acts almost as a gain control would
* Unlacquered tweed
