New Amp Day: /13
Exactly 3 weeks ago today, I was told my chances of getting this amp were, and I quote, "over my dead body, and only then". Unable to hire a hitman and resigned to my fate, I went and bought a Bad Cat Cub 15R combo. And content I was...
But as fate would have it, I am now the proud owner of my long term dream amp (and a bit more). A Divided By 13 CCC 9/15 combo. Plus the added bonus of a matching 1x12 extension cab.
(So the Bad Cat is out - see upcoming for sale thread.)
The /13 is a 12AX7 preamp with switchable power amp section, either 2 6V6's running class A at 9 watts (early Fender) or 2 EL84s in class AB for 15 watts (classic Vox). Controls are simply Volume (Gain), Bass, Treble and Master Volume. The combo has a G12H Anniversary and the extension cab has a Creamback.
I've had a few very nice amps and I was hoping for maybe a slight incremental improvement in sound, but holy wow! This thing is incredible. Fulfils all the usual cliches. It is uncompromisingly brutally honest.

Jeepers! So who died?
Agreed, stunning set up! Must buy something off you and not leave the wife in the car this time so that I can hang around awhile...

Re: New Amp Day: /13
Does the /13 need to be cranked?
Seems the more transparent the amp the less forgiving they are. My TK is the same. Have to tidy up my technique.

The master volume is excellent. Can get that sweet edge of breakup - about 1 o'clock on the gain - at home-friendly volume. Well, the neighbours haven't complained yet. It has only been one night though.Molly wrote:Does the /13 need to be cranked?

Looks fantastic.
People may be thinking WTF. I have been offered the chance to participate in an amp project that I couldn't resist. Pricey but. Conway was kind enough to take this off my hands...but oh the pain.

Surely you didn't think you could drop this and walk away?GrantB wrote:

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Top secret for now - and there's always a risk it will fall over.
But it is flamey, and crunchy.
