I saw a bunch of Vemuran pedals in the flesh here yesterday, price still eye watering, but not as much as the 1968 gold top at $47k…

New incarnation. We’ve added a song called Spug Life that was crying out for a Wah (see what I did there?), so I grabbed a cheap Valeton one and named it SPUG

Still trying to find the right drive, but out of everything I’ve tried, the Mudhoney is still my fave. If I find something in a smaller enclosure, I might do a bit of re-arranging so I can shoehorn a fuzz on there too.

Fully agree on Mudhoney being a great drive. I haven't found one better yet.

It’s a RAT circuit eh? They’re becoming quite popular again so a lot more options available now in a smaller form factor :-)

I have a Mudhoney clone that sounds nothing like a RAT...

If a Mudhoney doesn't sound like a Rat then it can't be very good.

I would like to try a Mudhoney as I can’t get on with RATs normally, too muddy IMO… but then I love a big muff… looking forward to getting home and trying the Ibanez OD850 out with my rig!

Mudhoney is a Rat with 3 parts changed that make it sound very much not like a Rat. If you put the boost on, that’s almost exactly the Rat circuit. Boost off it’s closer to Tubscreamer. It’s also buffered.

The reason why you’d say it’s a rat is that it uses a single Opamp with a dual rc network, hard clipping diodes, a filter tone (reversed to make it like humans would like) going into a JFET on the way out.

I am a massive fan of them and one of those times where the parts tweak is minimal but the tone change is huge.

How’s it compare to that current popular RAT based pedal the 1981 DRV?

It’s such a deceptively sweet circuit. I briefly had a Mudhoney II, and should really have kept that. It’s probably the answer to all life’s problems.
