NAD!
New AX8 Day Stoked to have found this one with only one owner who barely used it - the preamp equivalent of that old barnyard coupe find I reckon.
Looking forward to the idea of having everything on my board and taking one less thing to practice/gigs
Not looking forward to inevitable Matrix-like tonal rabbit hole I'm bound to descend into
Wish me luck/Fractal friends of the forum, send me your guidance !

Re: NAD!
Jump straight into the desktop editor, the user interface on the unit itself is indecipherable. It'll sound great though! My main gigging board for so many years.

Re: NAD!
Thanks Ed! Yeah, the majority of the webs agree with you that the software is the way to go for editing vs on the unit. The inner bogan in me is salivating over how many raucous high gain amp models I can now have at a stomp

Re: NAD!
So far so good, aside from the fact my Mooer BB30 power amp has the worst whine coming out of the power supply

Re: NAD!
Ended up with a EH Magnum 44 which has a beefier power supply and seems to run a lot better... super loud too!
The Euro Uber (Bogner Ubershall) is currently my go-to amp, HUGE sound even at low volumes. Even with zaulkin's help in setting it up for my basic live rig... I estimate I've dived into about 10-15% of what's available on the AX8.
I can completely understand how people move to modellers/profilers and don't look back now.

Re: NAD!
Thoughts a couple of months on / post-honeymoon period on the AX8.
Two gigs in, and I'm happy with the performance live - any shortcomings have been my own noob status around all the functionality, but I've set it relatively basically and the only thing I've done so far is shift my my main amp a couple of times based on live-cut preference . Tried out a few at practice over the last couple of months but currently exploring the FAS amps that are Fractal's own take on iconic models, which seem to have all the perks of said amps, plus some minor improvements (i.e. the FAS Modern I is like a Recto, but without that high fizz and boomy bottom end) which make them more more palatable.
Things I like
- It's so much easier to load in and set up just a pedalboard
- The variety of amp models is HUGE
- Axe Edit is detailed and a total black hole if you let it swallow you up, but the interface is linear and simple to use
- The effects sound authentic
- The unit itself is robust AF
Things I don't like
- I don't have enough time to tweak the living daylights out of it
