Works in progress...
New gat is coming along a treat... heres some pics. Still not sure what to do with the headstock yet. Spent a few hours today shaping the body further and routing the trem/pickup cavities. Though you can't see it well in the pix, the top is actually radiused slightly, it feels great

I've pretty much decided to leave it natural - oiled, gave it a wipe of sanding sealer and it looks very tasty Routing went off without a hitch, the cavities are pretty well burnt but its to be expected with my cheap router bits and I did everything freehand (without a template) so had to take it easy to avoid errors!

ok heres a few more images of this mornings progress - going to have to do some work now
Decided on headstock layout, did some more sanding and drilled holes in the body for controls. Will route the cavity a bit later...

Looks good so far!
I think you could knock about 5mm off the top side of the headstock (pretty much where that line is drawn) to eliminate most of the add-on peice and make the headstock look slimmer. With the rounded off body it looks a bit of a paddle. Might be cool to round off that edge a bit to match the body contours. Sculpted headstocks aren't very common, but they look cool as.

Pleease tell me you photoshopped that
Actually, its not too bad. A little less Ibanez looking for sure. See if you can incorporate some of the "vibe" of the upper horn into the headstock shape for continuity.

Not sure how to do that.... I've thinned it down a bit and accented the curve a little more. I guess the Ibanez thing was sub-conscious really, being a reverse its easy to go that way!ash wrote:Pleease tell me you photoshopped that

Wilkinson trem is now installed, had to modify it a bit as the blank wasn't quite deep enough - cut about 7mm off the depth of the block, redrilled the spring retaining holes and pinned the trem bush, jobs a good 'un
Going to route the control cavity tomorrow if I can figure out a way of following the curvature of the top, otherwise the pots and switch will stick out straight and the top is curved - any helpful hints Ash?

Use a flat spade bit to make little "landings" parallel to the front surface inside the cavity where the pots sit.bluesgeek wrote:Going to route the control cavity tomorrow if I can figure out a way of following the curvature of the top, otherwise the pots and switch will stick out straight and the top is curved - any helpful hints Ash?
