Re: The Jansen Thread
I came across this Jansen thread and thought I'd add a photo of me and my Jansen 2 x 15" JBL cabinet in a similar pose to the old photo of the Jansen guys.
I bought this secondand back in 1990 when I was playing in a loud blues band and needed to "punch" through the guitars and drums. I took the photo just before I sold the cabinet, today. I used a Peavey Mark IV head unit to drive it and my bass is a Fender Lyte. Which has a Precision front and Jazz rear pickup and an active circuit. So the sound can range from very bright to mellow. I bought the Fender as my homemade Precision was very heavy and I'd been playing it since the late 60's.
The JBL E140's in the cabinet gave a nice clean sound with plenty of tops when needed, and plenty of volume. The cabinet is large; Dimensions in cm: H 108; W 60; D 46 and heavy and these days I'm a bit too old to lug it around, so have replaced it with a homemade custom cabinet with just 1 JBL K140.

Re: The Jansen Thread
I have no Jansen gear form the old times, but I'll chip in to say I've brought plenty of stuff from the new era jansen, and customer service, range of products and shipping times are always great. props to nzsimon1 for running a great business.
Re: The Jansen Thread
As a young bogan, bassman's were the amp of choice as they were relatively cheap then(early 90's)A friend gave me his bassman 50 a few years back, was running on one power tube, got a quote on retubing it and decided it wasn't worth spending the money on and threw it in the skip at the chch RS....kinda wished i'd kept it now.Especially as this is what the last 75 went for..http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =201000961

Re: The Jansen Thread
I took Timi's advice and got a Bassman 50 and it's all good.
not a gigging amp by any means but a nice variant for recording.
Great amp for flatwounds and 15" speakers.
I require...fundamental
there is a fantastic review on this other NZ site by somebody.

Re: The Jansen Thread
I've had Jansen equipment on and off many times. I still use a Jansen PA as pictured, and my Dad is the guy in the middle playing through a Jansen (no idea make or model, but they all swore by Jansen)

Re: The Jansen Thread
If I have to have a face on PA eq (remember - vocals only for Rog), I prefer a frowning face. The sound guy with Sweet taught me that. Seems to work out just fine for most gigs. Mind you, I know that every sound guy has their own pet setup and woe betide anyone who says its crap .... Sound guys can be VERY precious and opinionated.

yup EQ........the most poorly understood and badly used tool of all.........nzsimon1 wrote:Whats with the smiley face EQ?
smiley EQ is right up there with people who bought SPX90's and used the "hall" setting when they played in a hall and the "Room" setting when they played in room
